LOS ANGELES, Jan 20, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- KB Home (NYSE:KBH), one of America's largest homebuilders, today
announced that it has teamed up with Sherwin-Williams to use an
exclusive line of co-branded, low-VOC interior paints in all new homes
that begin construction after January 1, 2009. This environmentally
preferred paint is specially formulated to be low in odor, resists
mildew and can help promote better indoor air quality when compared to
traditional paints.
KB Home has included low-VOC paints in its Built to Order(TM) offerings to
customers for many years, but has now committed to use them exclusively
across all of its homebuilding operations, as detailed in the Company's
Sustainability Report released in July 2008 (www.kbhome.com/sustainability).
The KB Home Studios, where customers select options to customize their
new KB homes, now offer a wide selection of the new low-VOC interior
paint colors as part of its My Home. My Earth.(TM) line of
environmentally friendly choices.
"Sherwin-Williams has been an outstanding partner to work with in our
company-wide effort to build homes that are more environmentally
friendly for our customers," said Jeffrey Mezger, president and chief
executive officer of KB Home. "Each additional step we take is an
important one for our customers and our planet."
"KB Home is a recognized leader in the homebuilding industry for its
commitment to sustainability," said Christopher M. Connor, chairman and
chief executive officer of Sherwin-Williams. "We're pleased that every
KB homeowner across the country will now enjoy our high-quality products
in their new homes for years to come."
KB Home honored Sherwin-Williams at its 2008 Strategic Partners
Conference with a Sustainability Partnership award. The awards were
presented to companies whose products have made a positive contribution
to KB Home's My Home. My Earth. strategic environmental
initiative.
In 2008, KB Home began exclusively offering Shaw Anso Nylon carpet in
all new home construction. This new carpet is not only recyclable but
emits lower VOCs in the home environment compared to standard carpet. By
adding this new line of environmentally preferred paints, KB Home takes
another step toward its stated goal of improving indoor air quality and
becoming a leading environmentally friendly national company.
