Builder adds net-zero energy usage option to its signature Built to
Order home designs
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
KB Home (NYSE: KBH), one of the nation's premier homebuilders, today
announced a planned nationwide rollout of its next-generation of
energy-efficient home designs, a net-zero energy home it has dubbed
ZeroHouse 2.0. The introduction of ZeroHouse 2.0 is the latest
advancement made by America's Built to Order™ homebuilder to help lower
the total cost of homeownership for homebuyers. While a new ENERGY STAR®
qualified standard KB home may save homeowners $1,000 annually on their
energy utility costs on average, when compared to a typical resale home,
selecting a ZeroHouse 2.0 may eliminate their monthly electricity
charges entirely.
The first ZeroHouse 2.0 model homes include solar power systems and
building techniques and features that enhance efficiency well beyond KB
Home's ENERGY STAR qualified standard. These homes will open later this
week in Tampa, San Antonio and Austin. Much more than just a concept
home, homebuyers in these markets will now be able to incorporate
ZeroHouse 2.0 energy efficiency options into their home at the KB Home
Studio. The national rollout of ZeroHouse 2.0 to more KB Home
communities will continue through 2012.
"Thousands of KB homeowners are already enjoying savings on their
monthly energy costs thanks to our standard ENERGY STAR qualified
homes," said Jeffrey Mezger, president and chief executive officer of KB
Home. "With the introduction of the ZeroHouse 2.0 program, we are now
able to offer homebuyers a home that outperforms typical new and resale
homes, reduces their monthly electric bill significantly and potentially
gets it all the way down to zero."
Visitors to a KB Home community with a ZeroHouse 2.0 model home can take
a guided tour that highlights the many features, some visible and some
hidden behind the walls, that help reduce energy costs. Higher
efficiency is the result of a whole-home approach, from the inside out,
that begins with increased insulation, upgraded HVAC systems and
dual-pane, low-e windows and ends with solar panels on the roof.

with our ENERGY STAR qualified homes, and new options for

ZeroHouse 2.0 packages will vary by market.
