National builder honored as Partner of the Year - Sustained
Excellence for the fifth consecutive year, and Partner of the Year -
Climate Communications, for the second year
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized KB Home
(NYSE: KBH) with two 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Awards:
Sustained Excellence, for its continued leadership in protecting the
environment through superior energy efficiency, and Climate
Communications, for its outstanding efforts to elevate the issue of
climate change through its actions. KB Home has also been recognized
with 16 ENERGY STAR Certified Homes Market Leader Awards for the
important contribution KB Home has made to energy-efficient construction
and environmental protection by building ENERGY STAR certified new homes
in all of its divisions across 40 major markets coast-to-coast. The
nearly 90,000 ENERGY STAR certified KB homes built to date are estimated
to save more than $28 million on utility bills while preventing
greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 32,000 passenger
vehicles each year.
KB Home is the only production homebuilder to earn ENERGY STAR's Partner
of the Year - Sustained Excellence award for five years in a row, and is
also the first and only homebuilder to receive ENERGY STAR's Partner of
the Year - Climate Communications award since its inception in 2014. KB
Home's accomplishments were recognized in Washington, D.C. on April 20,
2015.
KB Home, an industry leader and ENERGY STAR partner since 2000, was
honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency. KB Home
builds all of its new homes to the ENERGY STAR program's Version 3
guidelines, which can help lower the total cost of homeownership.
"We are proud to have earned ENERGY STAR's Sustained Excellence
designation for our industry-leading dedication to energy efficiency
once again in 2015, and to be recognized as a top Climate Communicator
for our efforts to raise public awareness about the positive impact
energy efficiency can have on the environment," said Jeffrey Mezger,
president and chief executive officer of KB Home. "KB Home remains
committed to building innovative new homes that deliver superior energy
efficiency, increased comfort, and enduring benefits to our homebuyers
nationwide."
Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped
prevent a total of more than two billion metric tons of greenhouse gas
emissions. In 2013 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more
than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from
climate change.
"Through their sustained participation with ENERGY STAR, KB Home is
helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce
our nation's greenhouse gas emissions that fuel climate change," said
EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. "I applaud KB Home for earning EPA's
highest ENERGY STAR award, the 2015 Partner of the Year - Sustained
Excellence Award, and the Partner of the Year - Climate Communications
Award, demonstrating a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to
preserving a healthy planet for future generations."
The 2015 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Awards are given to
a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing
greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy efficiency
achievements. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by
setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing innovative energy
efficiency approaches. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across
the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services,
new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public
sectors.
The 2015 Partner of the Year - Climate Communications Awards are awarded
to partners that have raised their customers' awareness of the impact of
climate change through communications campaigns that encourage their
customers to fight climate change with the help of ENERGY STAR or
emphasize how energy-efficient behaviors have a positive impact on the
environment.
