KB Home earns 17 ENERGY STAR Certified Homes Market Leader Awards,
the most given to any homebuilder in 2016, for its commitment and
support of energy-efficient construction
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
KB Home (NYSE: KBH) is pleased to announce that it has been recognized
by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with seventeen 2016
ENERGY STAR Certified Homes Market Leader awards. The awards recognize
the important contribution KB Home has made to energy-efficient
construction and environmental protection by building ENERGY STAR
certified homes in all of its major markets nationwide last year. KB
Home has built more than 96,000 ENERGY STAR homes since joining the
program in 2000.
Collectively, these homes are estimated to save homeowners as much as
$29 million on utility bills while preventing greenhouse gas emissions
equivalent to those from 34,000 passenger vehicles each year. Every
ENERGY STAR certified home must meet rigorous requirements for energy
efficiency set by the EPA and undergo third-party testing and
verification. New KB homes that earn the ENERGY STAR label are up to 70%
more efficient than typical existing homes built today.
"These awards represent KB Home's commitment to energy efficiency at
every level of our organization," said Jeffrey Mezger, president and
chief executive officer of KB Home. "It is an honor to be recognized
again by the EPA for the innovative and energy-efficient homes we build
that help KB homeowners save energy and lower their overall cost of
homeownership."
Homes that have earned the ENERGY STAR label offer homebuyers a new home
built with energy-efficiency features and a combination of materials and
equipment that deliver better performance. Standard features include
proper sealing and insulation, high-performance windows, tight
construction and ducts, properly-sized and installed efficient heating
and cooling equipment, a comprehensive water management system, and
energy-efficient lighting and appliances. These value-adding features
lead to a more comfortable, energy efficient, and durable home that will
reduce utility and maintenance costs, while helping protect the
environment.
"We're proud to recognize ENERGY STAR partners such as KB Home who are
leaders in designing and building better homes from the ground up," said
Jonathan Passe, Director of EPA's ENERGY STAR Residential Branch.
"Third-party inspections and testing ensure homebuyers that their
investment in an ENERGY STAR certified home will offer the peace of mind
that their home will deliver superior energy efficiency, comfort,
durability, and value for years to come."
Together, families living in ENERGY STAR certified homes saved $628
million on their utility bills and avoided greenhouse gas emissions
equivalent to those of more than 700,000 vehicles last year alone. More
than 82,000 new homes were constructed to meet ENERGY STAR guidelines in
2015, and more than 1.6 million ENERGY STAR homes have been built since
1995.
