NYSE Opening Bell®
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
KB Home (NYSE:KBH) announced that Jeffrey Mezger, its chairman,
president and chief executive officer, will ring the Opening Bell at the
New York Stock Exchange today in celebration of the Company's 60th
anniversary. Accompanying him will be a team of long-tenured employees.
Founded in 1957, KB Home began as a local builder of entry-level homes
in Detroit, Michigan, and has grown to become one of the largest and
most recognized homebuilders in the United States. Today, KB Home
continues to focus on serving first-time homebuyers, while also building
homes for move-up and active adult homebuyers, across 36 markets in
seven states. Now headquartered in Los Angeles, California, the Company
is quickly approaching the milestone of constructing its 600,000th
home.
Personalized Approach to Homebuilding
KB Home is distinguished among large-production homebuilders by its core
strategy of offering customers a compelling combination of
affordability, choice, and personalization. The KB Home customer
experience typically begins with their selection of a home's lot
location, floorplan, and exterior elevation. Guided by a design
professional at the KB Home Design Studios, a retail-like showroom,
homebuyers can then further personalize their KB home with the décor
choices, design features and other special touches they value most, all
based on their individual preferences and budget.
History of Firsts and Innovation
Beyond its distinctive business model, KB Home has established itself as
an industry leader and innovator, achieving a number of firsts. In
addition to being the first homebuilder to be listed on the New York
Stock Exchange, KB Home was the first homebuilder to receive National
Housing Quality Certification by the National Association of Home
Builders in 2006.
Characteristic of its forward-thinking integration of modern building
technology over the years, in 2016, KB Home announced a partnership with
Apple®, becoming the first national builder to offer HomeKit™-enabled
homes in select KB Home communities. HomeKit enables a homeowner to
control several of their home's comfort and security features via a
single app on their smart phone or tablet, including lights, shades,
door locks, thermostat and other connected devices.
Looking to the future of home life in 2020 and 2050, KB Home worked with
Hanley Wood, the premier construction industry information services and
publishing company, to create a concept residence that was introduced at
the 2016 Greenbuild Conference held in Los Angeles. The Greenbuild KB
Home ProjeKt™ explored themes and ideas of sustainability, smart-home
technology, flexible living space, wellness, and security, and featured
a mix of both visionary advancements and today's cutting-edge
technology, such as a drone landing pad for package delivery, moveable
walls, a water-recycling dishwasher from Whirlpool® Corporation, and a
Tesla Powerwall®.
Industry Leadership in Sustainability
The year 2017 also marks 10 years since KB Home launched its
sustainability initiative, another of the Company's key differentiators.
KB Home was the first homebuilder to publish an annual Sustainability
Report detailing its commitment to environmentally-focused building, and
has done so since 2008. KB Home takes a broad approach to
sustainability, encompassing energy efficiency as well as water
conservation, healthier indoor environments, and waste reduction, with a
focus on incorporating such improvements at little or no additional
charge to its customers and lowering the long-term costs of
homeownership. The Company was the first homebuilder to introduce a
proprietary method for rating the energy performance of a home, the
Energy Performance Guide® (EPG®), which provides consumers with an easy
way to understand and compare the energy efficiency and potential
utility bill savings of each KB home nationwide.
As the first homebuilder to commit to building all of its homes to
ENERGY STAR® guidelines in 2009, KB Home recently received special
recognition from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for
building its 100,000th ENERGY STAR certified home. KB Home has been
recognized for its sustainability achievements with numerous awards. The
Company was the first national builder to receive top awards from the
EPA's ENERGY STAR, WaterSense® and Indoor airPLUS programs; the U.S.
Department of Energy's Zero Energy Ready Homes program; and the RESNET®
President's Award for highest number of energy-efficient homes built in
the United States.
KB Home will be celebrating its 60th anniversary throughout
the year and marking key moments in its enduring history of leadership
and innovation. To watch the NYSE Opening Bell live, please visit: https://www.nyse.com/events/3155709450/KB-Home-NYSE-KBH-Celebrates-their-60th-Anniversary-of-Founding.
