Company recognized for its industry leadership in energy efficiency
for the fourth consecutive year and the only homebuilder in the country
to win the prestigious honor
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
KB Home today announced that, for the fourth year in a row, it has
received the prestigious RESNET® President's Award for American
Production Builders for building the most homes with a HERS® Index score
of 53 or lower in the United States in 2016. Created by the Residential
Energy Services Network (RESNET), this award recognizes homebuilder
efforts to build highly energy-efficient homes. Since the award's
inception, KB Home remains the only recipient of the President's Award
for American Production Builders.
In celebration of this achievement and KB Home's continued excellence in
sustainability, a KB Home team was on hand to accept the award at the
2017 RESNET Conference held in Scottsdale, Arizona. This accomplishment
comes on the heels of KB Home's significant milestone of building its
100,000th ENERGY STAR® certified home.
About HERS
The HERS index is based on several variables that affect the energy
efficiency of a home, including exterior walls, attic, windows and
doors, heating and cooling systems, ductwork, water heating systems,
lighting and appliances. With the HERS index, lower scores signify
greater energy efficiency, generally resulting in reduced natural
resource consumption and utility bills compared to homes with higher
scores. For example, on average, a homeowner living in a KB home in
Phoenix with a HERS Index score of 53 can potentially save up to $1,500
annually, compared to typical existing homes, which have a baseline HERS
Index Score of 130.
Having partnered with the ENERGY STAR program since 2000 and committed
to building all of its homes to this rigorous standard since 2009, KB's
new homes consistently score relatively well on the HERS Index. KB
Home's best scoring home built in 2016 was in Phoenix, Arizona, which
achieved an impressive HERS score of 31. This highly-efficient ENERGY
STAR certified home included a solar photovoltaic system, and can
potentially save the homeowner up to $2,600 a year in energy bills.
